Olivier Roy is a French political scientist, professor at the European University Institute in Florence, Italy, and specialist of Islam. He's published on GEG's online review ('Le Grand Continent') an in-depth article about Europe and Christianity.
Is Europe Christian? Olivier Roy develops the nature, history, and outcomes of the tensions between religion's place in Europe and its observed tendency toward secularism. Ultimately, Roy concludes that "The problem of Europe nowadays is to promote not the expulsion of religion to the private sphere, but rather its re-socialisation and re-culturation."
His article will the starting point for our weekly discussion.
